From 1 January 2025, Charles was named as Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual Insure (OMI) Group, having acted in an interim capacity since March 2024. OMI employs 2800 people in South Africa across numerous lines of P&C business, serving the retail, commercial, corporate and specialty market segments through multiple distribution channels. Total revenues in 2024 exceeded R22 billion. Old Mutual is one of the largest financial services groups in South Africa, and as such plays a central role in the SA economy.
Prior to this, Charles has held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation since August 2013, which is 75% owned by Old Mutual Limited.
Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation is the leading trade credit insurance company on the Africa continent. They employ 280 full time staff headquartered in Johannesburg with annual revenue of R1.8 billion. CGIC enables trade by credit insuring close to 20% of South African GDP, and operates in both the corporate and SME market across 120 countries.
In his previous roles he has worked in various consulting and broking roles in the short-term insurance field, covering all classes of risk with a focus on the corporate sector and complex risks.
Charles is also a board member of the SA Insurance Association (SAIA).
