Old Mutual Soweto Marathon
The Old Mutual Soweto Marathon is South Africa's richest standard marathon. Affectionately known as 'The People's Race', the marathon winds its way through South Africa's biggest township, starting and finishing off at the infamous 2010 World Cup Soccer City stadium before passing famous landmarks such as the Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication in Kliptown, the house of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, the Hector Pieterson Memorial and the world's second biggest hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. It is the only race in the world that features houses of Nobel Peace Prize winners. The race comprises of a standard marathon, half marathon and a 10km race.
